Inspiration

Livable cities are the stage for daily life, accommodating a range of activities that add value to the quality of resident’s lifestyle. Active, livable cities are also beneficial to commerce. People’s positive image of a city centre as safe, sustainable, beautiful and vibrant correlates with a willingness to come, stay longer and spend more. When they do, everyone benefits.

The Glenorchy CBD Strategic Framework, prepared under the leadership of Inspiring Place, proposes a distinctive civic heart that is easy to reach and get around, vibrant in detail, intensely used and well loved.

The framework establishes a clear plan for change and urban design principles to guide private investment and for Council in making improvements to the urban realm. Its recommendations are visionary in scope and timeframe and more immediate and commonplace - the former to spur imagination and enthusiasm for change, the latter to allow Council to move forward while larger projects are developed and budgeted.

The awards jury complimented Inspiring Place on creating “a well-structured and coherent story for change” and on its leadership in working “collaboratively, spatially and strategically at the city scale”.

Outcomes

At its core, the work displays a deep understanding of the place and an enthusiasm for it that has inspired the client to action.

The Framework places Glenorchy at the forefront of the worldwide movement to build more livable cities.
